UK Prime Minister Theresa May accused the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s plan for a second independence referendum evidence of “tunnel division.” She called it “divisive” and said it would cause “huge economic uncertainty at the worst possible time.” The first referendum in which "people in Scotland voted decisively to remain part of our United Kingdom" took place less than two years ago, she noted.
London sources say that Sturgeon acted in response to the British Prime Minister’s refusal to demand special treatment for Scotland in Brexit negotiations.
