Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told visiting US Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Jerusalem Monday that although the UN was mandated to prevent Hizballah from rearming, it has not interfered in the flow of thousands of weapons to the Shiite group in violation of UN resolutions. He also pointed out that Tehran was turning Syria into a military base to promote its proclaimed objective to annihilate Israel, using Syria and Lebanon as its forward deployment for this purpose. Iran is moreover setting up guided missile factories in bot countries for use in its threatened war on Israel, he said.

DEBKAfile: The prime minister knows perfectly wall that Secretary Guterres does not have the capability to counter those schemes. Israel alone has the ability to impede them, depending on a decision by the prime minister, the defense minister and the IDF’s chief of staff to take action.
