Three days before the Saudi-led ultimatum to Qatar ran out, a fresh batch of Turkish troops landed Friday at the base Turkey set up in the emirate last week. Doha and Ankara announced they would take part in a joint exercise starting Monday. Qatar’s defense minister Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah arrived Thursday in Ankara where he is scheduled to meet with his Turkish counterpart Fikri Ishik as well as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey is the only Muslim country to come out in support of Qatar after four Arab nations severed ties with the emirate and imposed a diplomatic, aviation and trade boycott of the emirate.
